Can you laser cut stainless steel?

We get a lot of calls asking if fiber laser cutting is the right technology for cutting stainless steel.

Yes, laser cutting stainless steel is definitely possible and widely done in manufacturing and fabrication industries. High-powered lasers, usually fiber lasers, can cut through stainless steel effectively. The thickness of the stainless steel that can be cut depends on the laser's power and the type of laser used, but typically, laser cutting can handle materials up to about 3/8” thick in stainless steel and up to 1” in carbon steels.

The process provides precise cuts, minimal heat-affected zones, and clean edges. It’s commonly used for applications such as creating parts for machinery, architectural elements, or intricate designs in stainless steel.
